This is the free pattern version of my already best seller of the St. Patricks day marshmallow mug hats.

Materials
- 6 grams #4 weight/ Worsted Weight I used small amounts of Caron Simply Soft in the Sage colorway.
- 12 grams #4 weight/ Worsted Weight I used small amounts of Caron Simply Soft in the Cream colorway
- US size G/6 crochet hook (4.0 mm)
- 3/8″ Clover Pom Pom Maker
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
Gauge
16 stitches x 10.5 rows = 4″ square
Pattern used for gauge: half double crochet
Abbreviations
CH – chain
HD – Half-double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
5-dc Cluster – [Yarn over, insert the hook in the indicated stitch, and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 of the loops on the hook] repeat from [ to ] 4 more times, yarn over the hook and pull through all 6 loops on the hook. Pro-Note essentially this a dc5tog
SC- Single Crochet
SLST – Slip Stitch
ST(S) – Stitch(es)
Notes:
- Written in US Crochet Terms
- Chains at the beginning of the round does NOT count as a stitch.
- The first stitch of every round is placed in the same stitch as the slip stitch from the previous round See Photo below
- This hat is worked from the bottom up.

Pattern Instructions
For those that are not comfortable with the technique of chaining and then slip stitching into the first chain to form a ring. With Sage; Leaving a long enough tail to weave the first row closed; Ch 39, hd in the 3rd chain from hook and in each ch, sl st into first hd. See photo below Move down to Round 2

Ring Method:
With Sage; Ch 36, sl st into first ch to form a ring.
Round 1: ch2, hd in each stitch, sl st into 1st hd. (36 hds)
ALL METHODS
Round 2: ch2, hd in each stitch, sl st into 1st hd. (36 hds)
Cut Green leaving a long enough tail to weave in.
With Cream:
Round 3: Pull up Cream, ch3(counts as a stitch from here on), 2dc in first hd, * skip the next 2 sts, sc in next st, skip next 2 sts, 5dc in the next st* repeat from * to * across, ending with skip the next 2 sts , 2dc in last st, sl st into ch 3. (6- 5dc’s group, including the one made at the begining and finished at the end of the round)

Round 4: Ch1, sc in same ch as sl st, *ch3, 5dc cluster over the next 5 sts, ch 3, sc in next st* repeat from * to * across, ending with ch 3, sl st into 1st sc.


Round 5: Ch3, 2dc in 1st sc, *sc ontop of 5dc cluster, 5 dc in next sc* repeat from * to * across, ending with 2dc in the same space as ch3, See Photos , sl st into ch 3 of the beginning of round.
Round 6: Repeat round 4
Round 7: Repeat Round 5
Round 8: Repeat Round 4
Fasten off. Fold hat in half and sew up seam at the top of the hat. Make 2 pom poms or place bought ones on the corners of your hat.
Shamrock 4 leaf Applique
Magic ring: *ch 1, 3dc, ch1, sl st,* repeat from *to * 3 more times See Photo 1, ch 8, turn sl st into the 2nd chain from the hook See Photo 2 and sl st in each ch. Pull ring string tight. Fasten Off. Weave in ends.
ch2 Method: ch2, in 2nd chain from hook 3dc, ch1, sl st, *ch1, 3dc, ch1, sl st* repeat from *to * 2 more time. See Photos below ch 8, turn sl st into the 2nd chain from the hook See Photo Below and sl st in each ch. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Pictures on below are of the 3 leaf clover. the 4 leaf is worked the same way but with an extra leaf.
